Most of you I’m sure are following Jess and Jo’s blogging on the barre n9ne™ 60 day total body transformation (60 day challenge for short!). As you know they are required to maintain a food log. This is so that they can see what they are putting into their bodies every day. I believe it is super important to be able to look back at the end of the day and see what you did to fuel your body. In addition you have probably heard they have to stick to their “number”. Therefore this food log is serving two purposes.
- It is equally as important to see how much you are eating as well as how little. It is not healthy to eat less than your body needs, in an effort to lose weight or inches. I have never and will never encourage this lifestyle.
- Accountability. I am not micromanaging Jess and Jo. They are responsible for maintaining this log and sticking to a number we agreed upon. They are adults. They want change. This log holds them accountable for sticking to their number. Period. If they veer off course or don’t log for a few days they have themselves (and each other!) to answer to. I do not email them and say “Have you logged your intake today?” (I have however asked them for their username/password to FitDay a handful of times so I can peek since I am scatterbrained or should I say I still have baby brain!)
I had a moment this morning after our virtual class (which I love btw!) I put on a pair of work pants that I bought on April 19th the day before I returned to work from my maternity leave. I haven’t worn these pants in about a week and a half since it has been pretty nice out and I have been wearing dresses to work lately. WELL….these pants were LOOSER than the last time I wore them! Yippee!
Ironically enough and without sharing too much Jess texted me (JUST as I finished looking in the mirror and thinking to myself “I think these are looser?!”) that HER pants felt looser today!! I was rushing around and didn’t have time to tell her I just had the same thought!
Let’s rewind a little….
Throughout my pregnancy I was told that I had to take in at least 300-500 more calories a day. I’m pretty sure I took in more than 500 extra calories a day….especially since Jalen weighed 8lbs 3oz when he was born . Upon his birth I was really (still am) committed to breastfeeding. Again, you need to make sure you are taking in enough calories to be able to do so.
On June 7th, my pre-preggers skinny jeans still did not fit…..almost 5 months after having Jalen. I was torn. I wanted my body back AND I still wanted to breastfeed. I decided I would start using my food log again to see how much I am taking in. I really wasn’t surprised. I had reverted back to my old ways = eating healthy but eating more than I really need…and I mean more than I need to still continue breastfeeding Jalen. I am just eating TOO much.
Last Thursday night I revealed to Jess and Jo their inches lost in the first 30 days. Well what I didn’t tell them is that I have also started to follow my ‘number’ method again as well. It has been a long long time since I have done this.
I am happy to report that I have adjusted my number so that while I continue breastfeeding I can still be happy with my body. There is a happy medium. The good news is that combined with working out/teaching and logging my intake I have already started to see results = pants looser this morning
It doesn’t take long to see change, the hardest part is getting started.
